Wellion MICRO-PUMP FAQs

How does the PDA calculates the insulin on board?
IOB is based on a linearly decreasing curve.  The IOB time period is set by the user in the settings.

Can I switch off the alerts?
Low Priority Alarm will be shown on the screen Medium Priority Alarm requires user to confirm on the PDA , it will be turned off when PDA and PUMP are synchronized.

What will happen with the data when I loose my PDA?
As we are collobrating with Diasend, patients can transfer their pump data via mobile APP to Cloud.

What sort of memory does the PDA have? How much data does the PDA store?
Nonvolatile flash memory.   PDA memory can support 100,000 pieces of informations.

How exactly does the PDA knows how much insulin is left in the reservoir?
The insulin left in the reservoir is measured using the  motor step count.  That is, the system knows how many motor steps is a full reservoir and how many steps an empty reservoir is.  The other sensors ensure that the motor step count is correct.

What is the diameter of the canula?
0.7mm for the part of soft cannula

From which material is the medical tape of the infusion site made of?
Non-woven fabric material

Can the bluetooth get interfered with other bluetooth devices?
It is possible, but extensive testing is done at the factory on this, and precautions are shown in the user interface.

What wireless connection does the Wellion MICRO-PUMP use?
Proprietary protocol based on Bluetooth 4.0

Can I take my pump into the airplane/trough airport security? Do I need to switch off the PDA during flight?
Yes, you can. / Not necessarily to power off the PDA.( This depends on the regulations of airplane company.)

I’m going on a holiday to a country with fluctuating voltages -  can this damage my pump?
The range of voltages of our plug is 100-240V.

I’m going to a country with a different electrical socket, what do I do?
You need to prepare a plug convertor.

What is the maximum altitude the Wellion MICRO-PUMP is tested for? Can I go moutain climbing with my pump?
Pump can be used in(70-106)Kpa, same as Medtronic.

Can I use my pump in a hyperbaric oxygen tank?
There is potential risk, not recommended to use.

My PDA doesn’t charge – what do I do?
1.check cable, adaptor, socket and plug firstly to exclude these cases
2.If patients don't have above problems, please contact distributor to change PDA.

My PDA has been in a environment warmer than 40 degrees/colder than five degrees celcius. Can I still use it?
The temperature has beyond our operating temperature so it maight causes some trouble for devices.

My PDA’s screen freezes/blanks out, what do I do?
Power off the PDA and then restart. If It does not work, please contact your distributor to change.

My PDA makes a weird sound. What do I do?
Power off the PDA and then restart. If It does not work, please contact your distributor to change.

My PDA got wet, what do I do?
Power off the PDA and wait until it is completely dry then restart. If It still does not work, please contact your distributor to change.

I keep on getting occlusion alarms, what should I do?
Test your BG level first, follow the therapy. Then check if the reservoir is blocked. If not, change infusion site on the body. (When an occlusion alarm is activated, user has to get this alarm confirmed on PDA.)

I got an occlusion alarm, how do I know how much insulin I’ve missed?
There will be around 2~4U insulin missed. The user shall check their  BG level.

I didn’t get a alarm for my low battery/empty reservoir. How can this be?
Power off the PDA and then restart. If It does not work, please contact your distributor to change.(This situation is very rare)

My reservoir is leaking. What do I do?
Test your BG level and change a new reservoir.

I had a bad reaction to my canule, is there a solution?
Maybe it's caused by allergy or sweat leak into place of insertion. Patients can choose another place for inserting canula.(Very few people has this issue as they will change patch every 3 days, it's very short time)

I had a bad reaction to my patch, is there a solution?
Patients can choose another place for inserting canula.(Very few people has this issue as they will change patch every 3 days, it's very short time).

How should I do if I lost PDA?
You have to send back the pump and our technical team will disconnect the pump compulsorily with that lost PDA. After that you can order a single PDA to combine it with that pump.

How should I do if I lost Pump?
In PDA settings, you can choose "reset factory" to disconnect old pump if you lost the pump, then re-connect a new pump

What is the automatic shutdown function of the  insulin pump?

  1. "Automatic shutdown"  is an optional security function and a protection function for users. You can set an 8-hour automatic shutdown at night. If you do not operate the PDA or the button of the pump after 8 hours, the pump will stop delivering insulin, and the pump and PDA will send an alert for suspending.
  2. In initial settings, this function is turned off. You need to turn it on if you want to use this function and you can set the time of automatic shutdown.

In what condition do you need to set the bolus

  1. When you eat meals with both rapidly and slowly absorbed carbohydrates such as some fast foods. An Extended Bolus With Amount Now is a bolus that is administered in two stages – an amount immediately, and the remainder over an extended period of time
  2. When you have eaten a long meal with extended snacking, have delayed digestion due to gastropares is or for meals high in fat, to administer an Extended Bolus Without Amount Now (you can set 30 minutes-8 hours ) , set the Amount Now to 0 (zero). No immediate bolus will be administered.

What should I do if there are bubbles in the reservoir

  1. Take out the insulin 4-8 hours in advance and wait for it returns to room temperature.
  2. Slowly pull the pullrod and draw insulin into the reservoir
  3. It may also produce bubbles when wearing the insulin pump to do exercise, you can remove the bubbles by changing the reservoir and priming the reservoir.

Is the special insulin for the insulin pump?
The insulin is not special-purpose, you can buy it with a prescription in the hospital.  Quick acting U100 Insulin can be used in the pump.

Does body temperature affect insulin in the reservoir?
According to our experiment, the insulin in reservoir was under strong light irradiation and room temperature of 25 ℃ or 37 ℃ for 10 days, the insulin had no substantive chang on stability and physicochemical properties.

Is the insulin pump waterproof? Can I wear it in the shower?
The patch pump is water resistant and splashproof (IPX4). Do not fully submerge the pump in water. If you plan to bathe, swim, or participate in other water activities, please suspend insulin delivery and remove the pump from the base

Can I use my pump if I left the PDA at home?
Yes, as long as you set the basal delivery and active it, even you left the PDA at home ,the pump will work as the setting basal rate. If you need to deliver a bolus, you can press the button on the pump and it will delivery the pre-set bolus

How should I do when I receive the pump battrery exhausted alert?
When pump sends a low battery  alert,  there is still around 5% power to support pump rewind automatically, please replace with a fully charged battery.

What is the acceptable distance between pump and PDA?
The pump and PDA communicate wireless, the effective communication distance is 2 meters.

After shutdown, how long can the memory be stored  in PDA?
All records and settings of the system will not be lost after shutdown

What is the accuracy of delivery?
Within range of ±5%

Can I save my values/settings on the micro SD card?
No - micro SD card is only for the Bluetooth function and Audio player.
